Welcome to Obama Land: No Change, No Hope!

2008 December 22

Gun sales are up over 90% in many locations throughout the country, even in a time of economic uncertainty and staggering unemployment. Recently, a local shop sold out of .40 caliber pistols as soon as the doors opened. The purchasers were all female.

If gun sales are an indicator of how much faith people have in Obama and his promises of change, then the president-elect has a difficult road ahead of him and his new administration. If we throw in the statistics concerning the lack of faith in our elected leaders, statistics that have remained fairly constant and very low for quite some time, then we see the general mood in the country is not improving since election day. Americans realize they are governed by members of a political cesspool, and the Blago scandal isn’t helping to assuage concerns.

In fact, the landscape continues to maintain a status quo, as evidenced by the corruption and dirty political nature of Obama’s acquiring of the change.gov domain. Throw in the lawless reaction to Proposition 8’s passage and the ugly response of the gay community and its liberal supporters, and we see a continuance of “business as usual.”

The reality Americans are coming to grips with is anything but the empty promises of election 2008. Granted, Obama hasn’t even taken office, but the problems he and his incoming administration face are growing everyday, including the international scene and the well covered American and global economies.

On the issue of change, no one will agree more with the Obama campaign’s identifying a need for change than I, but disagreement with its form over substance nature was and is a real problem for this writer. The campaign’s Hollywoodesque manipulation of emotions was plainly evident to those willing to look beyond the rhetoric and impossible promises, such as tax relief that continually reduced its threshold.

Further complicating Obama’s ability to lead the country out of its moral, ethical, and political corruption is the entitlement mentality of the American people, particularly the generations comprised of those between the ages of 18 and 30. Not only are many of this group devoid of any work ethic, the reaction of one supporter’s claim that she wouldn’t have to pay her mortgage any longer is more than a little unsettling–it’s socialism on steroids.

Exacerbating the problem is the socialist appeal of the left’s nanny state rhetoric. Vilifying George Bush for every ill the country faces is not only untruthful, it epitomizes the Obama campaign’s empty promises and underscores Hollywood’s influence in the election. Yesterday’s NY Times article blaming Bush for the mortgage crisis was filled with too many falsities to list. Oprah Winfrey’s own bias exemplifies just how far the left is willing to go to gain a dangerous level of control and shut down any dissent.

On the other hand, McCain is the poster child for the new Republican viewpoint that the party needs to appeal to the center of America’s political landscape. As I’ve opined before, centrists are cowards. They refuse to take any type of stand, which is a moral compromise at best and a Nazi-like apathy at worst. Centrists are also proof that American “rugged individualism” is a myth.

Yes, there are bright spots, such as Joe the Plumber. Unfortunately, the leftist snooping into his life by Obama supporters, snooping that violated a plethora of laws, is further evidence of just how corrupt American politics are, as well as underscoring the basic totalitarian and Machiavellian mindset of the left.

Thus, with the specter of Israel attacking Iran, Britain pulling out of Afghanistan, the Madoff and Blago scandals, illegal snooping by government employees who support Obama, the gay response to the “will of the people,” a tubing economy, Obama’s own actions since the election, and the ongoing mortgaging of our children’s future, there is little hope for any change. And Americans know this.

Who will lead America into real change? Only the American people are capable of enacting change, and it appears less likely that it will be accomplished at the ballot box. Perhaps that’s why so many Americans are buying guns.

If the seemingly small gay community can create as much nationwide political turmoil as it has, this should be an indication of the potential Islam will have once it gets rolling.

Dave: You really hit the nail on the head. There are far more Muslims than gays in America and, despite a few setbacks for CAIR and other radical organizations, the moderates have still not moved from their position that Allah trumps the US Constitution. The irony of this is the blindness of the secularists to the Islamic world view towards (1) time, (2) lying to one’s enemies, and (3) the unspoken agenda. Time will only tell when the “known” outcome takes place.

I certainly hope there’s someone out there buying up high powered hunting rifles w/scopes plus thousands of rounds of ammo, and stashing them in some underground concrete bunker. Not that I think we’re near that point yet. I stubbornly hang-on to the belief that we can still solve this problem politically. I suppose the most disturbing thing to me is the level of trust that some on the “conservative” side are now putting in Obama. The leopard does not change its spots.

DD: Amen! The leopard does not change its spots, and the left is behaving like a roaring lion, ready to devour anyone in its path. Fortunately, there are some who subscribe to common sense and moderation in government. Unfortunately, those ravenous lions of the left have begotten more than a few folks with plenty of ammunition and weaponry. Though the Jeffersonian Solution is not my favorite option, it is an option. Especially if the country’s leadership refuses to clean-up its act.

    BTW, enjoyed your site. :-)

The far left is speaking out and pushing their agenda while we conservatives sit around hoping that they will go away and saying nothing. The only way this country will turn around and get straighting out is when and only when the conservatives stand up for what they think is right! Great Post, here in North Carolina people are buying guns the fastest I have ever seen.

Concur wholeheartedly. We’re experiencing the same level of gun sales in Texas. You can’t find an assault rifle to buy, there is no 5.56 mm ammo anywhere, the standard long-distance .30 caliber type bores are flying off the shelves, and women are purchasing handguns faster than the stores can restock. Americans are not stupid, and many see the handwriting on the wall.
