UPDATE on “The Beast of Cumberland County”

UPDATE (08 Nov 08 @ 1025 CST): As if Diantha Harris’ conduct wasn’t bad enough, the “victim’s” parents think that Harris is “getting a rough deal.” Say, what?! Is Army Staff Sergeant Thompson smoking crack and somehow beating mandated urinalysis or has the federally-mandated indoctrination of its troops and civilian employees finally taken its toll, with the result being an acceptance of Harris’ outrageous Hitler-like conduct in the classroom? The victim even stated that Harris is “usually messing around” as portrayed in the YouTube video released on Finland’s Swedish language channel. If this is true, and if a student and her parents think Harris’ conduct is perfectly okay, then Michelle Malkin has it right: “[W]e are even more screwed than I thought.”

UPDATE (07 Nov 08 @ 1813 CST): The Drudge Report has linked to a  Fayetteville Observer Article on Diatha D. Harris. Harris claims footage was “edited” to make her look like an Obama partisan. Really? Did the camera crew force you to wear the Obama button in the “edited” video? Did the camera crew force you to act so beastly and deliberately inflict emotional distress on a child? First and foremost, this is about an educator abusing her position of authority to hurt a Soldier’s daughter and indoctrinate children. Edited. Yeah, right.

UPDATE (07 Nov 08 @ 1647 CST): Michelle Malkin posted an update earlier today on The Beast of Cumberland County, Diatha Harris.

Dr. William Harrison, Superintendent of Cumberland County Schools (where Harris actually works), posted a statement on the district’s website. It appears an investigation is underway, but only the results will be made public.

In his statement, Dr. Harrison makes it very clear that his schools support the military.

“We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.

We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.”

In the meantime, I have received a personal reply from Mayor Bellamy of Asheville. Since it is a personal reply, I must obtain permission from the mayor to use any portion of her email to me. However, I will say that Mayor Bellamy takes this issue seriously, is working to correct some misinformation, and her email was quite sincere and very professional.

I think we all recognize that the YouTube video released overseas is very emotive and contains very blatant political bias, as well as using a position of authority to inflict pain on a child, indoctrinate children into the Obamination camp, and malign President Bush, Senator McCain, as well as the very troops that provide Harris a platform to spew her bile.

This situation will continue to be monitored, and we will certainly allow Dr. Harrison time to conduct his investigation. In the meantime, there are some other burning issues out there, including the latest move by the Obamination campaign.
